Articles, possessives & demonstratives

All nouns in Spanish are either feminine or masculine, as well as singular or plural.

LOS ARTÍCULOS DEFINIDOS DEFINITE ARTICLES
	singular	plural
femenino	la mujer = the woman la casa = the house	las mujeres = the women las casas = the houses
masculino	el hombre = the man el libro = the book	los hombres = the men los libros = the books

LOS ARTÍCULOS INDEFINIDOS INDEFINITE ARTICLES
	singular	plural
femenino	una mujer = a woman una casa = a house	unas mujeres = some *women unas* casas = some* houses*
masculino	un hombre = a man un libro = a book	unos hombres = some* men* unos libros = some books

LOS POSESIVOS CORTOS SHORT POSSESSIVES Possessives reflect the ownership (like in English) as well as the number, and even the gender of the object possessed. Short possessives are used in front of nouns.

my	mi casa/libro	mis casas/libros
your (of tú)	tu casa/libro	tus casas/libros Tus hijos tienen que estar muy contentos con tantos primos. Your kids must be very happy with so many cousins.
her/his/their/ your (of usted/ustedes)	su casa/libro	sus casas/libros
our	nuestra casa / nuestro libro	nuestras casas / nuestros libros

Subject pronouns

LOS POSESIVOS LARGOS LONG POSSESSIVES Long possessives are used after nouns or instead of nouns (pronouns). When used as pronouns, they are accompanied by an article.
	Si tú quieres yo puedo prestarte algo mío. If you want I can lend you something of mine.	¿Te importa que use los tuyos? Do you mind if I use yours?

mine	mía/mío La casa es mía. El libro es mío.	mías/míos Las casas son mías. Los libros son míos.
yours (tú)	tuya/tuyo La casa es tuya. El libro es tuyo.	tuyas/tuyos Las casas son tuyas. Los libros son tuyos.
hers/his/theirs/ yours (usted/ustedes)	suya/suyo La casa es suya. El libro es suyo.	suyas/suyos Las casas son suyas. Los libros son suyos.
ours	nuestra/nuestro La casa es nuestra. El libro es nuestro.	nuestras/nuestros Las casas son nuestras. Los libros son nuestros.

LOS DEMOSTRATIVOS DEMONSTRATIVES Demonstratives indicate the general location of something in relation to the speaker. Spanish distinguishes among three levels of distance (instead of two, like in English)–here, there, and far over there. Look at the examples with images.

	Aquí en esta parte del armario puedes guardar tus cosas. Here in this part of the cabinet you can keep your things.
	-Mira, los cubiertos están en ese cajón a tu izquierda. –¿En este? –Ese. Look, the silverware is in the drawer to your left. –In this one? -That one.
